The Auction Sale — April 27, 1996

The sale bill, transcribed — Laurie Lindstrand Auctions, Holden, Alberta

“The Piece of Cardboard” is written as a flashback from the eve of this day. After thirty-eight years of farming, Walter sold the working life of the farm at public auction — every tractor and truck, the balers and the harrow bars, right down to the kitchen table, the kids’ bikes, and the ice cream maker. It all fit on one yellow page.
